Play
Begin your grocery store hunt
- Walk up & down the aisles searching for foods that start with the letter G.
- Look at food labels and refer to your chart (e.g., graham crackers, grapes, goldfish crackers, gummy bears, guacamole, garlic, etc.).
Say Its Name
- As you find each item, say its name aloud and emphasize the hard /g/ sound (like in 'gorilla').
- Eventually, your little one will learn about the soft /g/ sound (like in 'gelato'), and you can point out this difference if they notice it at the store.
Ask questions to spark curiosity
- What color are the grapes?
- Do we eat garlic raw or cooked?
- What shape are the Goldfish crackers?
Count and Compare
- Add in a counting challenge: How many G items can you find?
- Compare the sizes, colors, and shapes of the items you find.
Bonus Gs
- Extend the game by looking for non-food items in the store that start with G, like gift wrap, gum, or greeting cards.
