YOU ARE CAPE-ABLE
Why play this way?
Sometimes, a prop can become a central symbolic force that drives the action & sets the tone for play. When we think of capes, we think of power, confidence, & excitement. After all, a cape has the potential to let us fly - at least in our imagination. This activity combines self-expression and self-empowerment in a concrete, yet playful way. Your little one will experience the thrill of approaching the world unabashedly, confident in being fully themselves.
SET THE STAGE FOR PLAY: 5 Minutes
Ready
1 plain crewneck t-shirt (size XL)
Scissors (for adults)
Fabric markers or Sharpies
Craft materials (e.g., string, pom poms, sequins, googly eyes, etc.)
Glue
Set
Cut the sleeves off of the t-shirt.
Cut along the seams on each side, from armpit to waist.
Open the shirt and lay it flat so you can see both the front and back.
Cut off the back of the t-shirt, leaving the collar intact. (This will create a hole for your child's head to go through).
Play!
In Odd Dog Out, each dog learns that they are a superstar because they are uniquely themselves.
Plan a special cape to show what a superstar you are! Think about and explore the things that you love, and how they make you, YOU!
Consider your favorite:
- Shapes, Animals, Games, Foods, Colors, People, Books, Places, Clothes, Toys, Words, Weather
Make your cape with your favorites in mind. (For example, if you love giraffes, add a giraffe!)
Add your unique flair by gluing on decorations.
Run, fly, & play freely in your one-of-a-kind cape knowing how powerful & special you are because you are YOU!
