Get Ready & Set
- Put a long line of tape across the floor.
- Gather a collection of objects such as balled-up socks or playing cards.
- Place one item at the start of the tape line and then add a second.
Play!
- Stand back and see if your little one adds another item to the line.
- You can encourage them to do so, or continue modeling on your own.
- Extend this play by adding in additional items.
- Once your line up is complete, you can count the items together, beginning with the first one you placed on the line.

Why Play This Way?
In addition to demonstrating how counting and play go hand in hand, this activity invites your little one to think about ordering and arranging items in a logical way — important early math concepts that will help strengthen their general sequencing & processing skills. You can recreate this activity over and over using different household materials to tap into your child’s natural inclination to process, sort and organize objects in their environment.
