This game brings all the creative fun of printmaking to the sensory goodness of dough play and then adds a clever twist! You make the prints, and your friend guesses what you used to make them. But watch out…it’s simple to make a mark, but easy to be fooled when you are the guesser. When you’re done with the game, keep playing with The Dough Project’s super, all natural, dough.

Using dough as a three dimensional sensory canvas, your little one will love to squish, bury, poke and play with their food parts while also strengthening their fine motor skills. The combination of dough and food creates the ultimate open-ended & malleable material – perfect for inspiring endless play.

There is nothing like the calming power of music to soothe an overwhelmed child. Plus, sharing musical moments with your little one is a wonderful way to spend an intimate moment together while also modeling your ability to prioritize peacefulness in a busy world.

There’s nothing quite like laughing together. Young children love to tell jokes and find humor in just about anything. Take this opportunity to “get on their level” and let their playfulness and humor be a source of joy.

Leaves and flowers frozen inside of sphere ice cubes

This play takes scientific and mathematical thinking to a whole new dimension! Freezing your water and natural parts in containers of various shapes and sizes invites the exploration of shape, size, and form. These refreshing changes will require your little one to handle their ice chunks differently and will therefore open up new opportunities for play.

A child lays on a bed and uses a single drawing utensil to create art in her journal

We love this opportunity for minimalistic self-expression! Using only black and white materials, children are able to focus on line, shape and shading. They will recognize and focus on each individual doodle while enjoying the creative process.

Child sits and plays in a large bin of rice for sensory food fun

We love a super-sized sensory play adventure. With this activity, your little one will have the opportunity to dive right into their play – literally! Sometimes the best way to expose children to new food has nothing to do with tasting. When hands and arms (and even feet!) are deep in play, children will begin to associate food with joy while also expanding their threshold for different tactile sensory experiences.

child squatting in a yoga pose with her hands and palms pressed together and her head lifted.

Practicing yoga is a wonderful way to bring calm to your mind through the use of your body. For young children, yoga can also provide increased body confidence and may be used to quiet the mind in an often overwhelming world. We love the idea of adding yoga and guided meditation to your little one’s tool box as a form of independent self-regulation.

Say Silly Sounds

In addition to demonstrating how counting and play go hand in hand, this activity invites your little one to think about ordering and arranging items in a logical way — important early math concepts that will help strengthen their general sequencing & processing skills. You can recreate this activity over and over using different household materials to tap into your child’s natural inclination to process, sort and organize objects in their environment.

child holding a book and sitting in a box that has been turned into a cozy nook with a soft blanket and hanging soft materials.

We often think of play as rough and tumble, but in this busy world, box play can lend itself very nicely to a quiet and cozy experience. Quiet play in a box helps to self soothe and slow down. A simple box can become a safe little world away from all of the hustle & bustle and potentially overwhelming stimuli.
