RAINBOW CONNECTION

COLOR QUEST

Why play this way?

In Benjamin’s Thunderstorm, the characters feel deeply connected to nature, honoring its power and beauty. Inspired by Benjamin’s love of rainbows, this activity invites children to explore the vibrant colors around them using their new Color Wheel. By focusing on small pops of color, they’ll create “windows” through which they can discover, engage with, and appreciate the natural wonders of the world more deeply.

Turn to the page in your book where Benjamin names the colors of the rainbow.

  • Say the colors in English.
  • Read them in Cree.
  • Can you say any color names in a different language?

Explore your new Color Wheel.

Bring it with you as you head outdoors.

Play!

Search for something colorful that catches your eye.

Look at it through the hole in your Color Wheel and find the color that most closely matches what you see.

Keep exploring your surroundings.

  • How many different colors can you find?
  • Which color do you notice the most?
  • What color is the sky?
  • Can you find a range of shades in the colors around you? Look for lighter, darker, and even surprising variations.

Later, create your own art to remember your colorful nature walk, just like Benjamin at the end of the story.
