Book cover Little Bird by Germano Zullo
Big question mark

Questions to spark conversations and connections

  • Stop on the first page and ask, “What do you see on this page?” “What do you think will happen next?”
  • Turn the page and ask: “Now what do you see?”
  • Turn the page and ask: “What is happening to the truck? Is it getting closer or farther away?”
  • Pause on the page with no words and use picture cues to tell the story in your own words.
  • When you get to the line: “Little things are not made to be noticed,” ask, “What do you think the author meant by that line?” Use this moment to talk about how it is often the small things in life that matter most. In this story these include things that are actually small (the bird) but also the two character’s kind gestures.
  • When the truck leaves, ask, “Do you think this is the end of the story?”
  • Finally, discuss what the little bird gave back to the man for teaching it how to fly. Was it a small thing or a big thing?
